Summer EBT is launching in summer 2024.

Families in participating states will receive $40 per eligible child each month of summer in addition to the availability of free summer meals programs.

Select states and tribal nations have submitted a notice of intent to implement Summer EBT in 2024.  A final list of implementing agencies will be available in spring 2024.

Redeeming Summer EBT Benefits

Families can find eligible stores for their summer food benefits using USDA’s EBT retailer locator.

Summer EBT benefits can be used to purchase:
  • fruits and vegetables
  • meat, poultry, and fish
  • dairy products
  • breads and cereals
  • other foods (such as snack foods and non-alcoholic beverages)
Summer EBT cannot be used to purchase:
  • hot foods
  • pet foods
  • cleaning or household supplies
  • personal hygiene items
  • medicine
