In 2014, the USDA Farm to School Program hosted a 12-part webinar series to showcase the variety of ways school districts can purchase local foods. The series starts with an introduction to basic procurement principles, and then walks participants through strategies and tactics for buying local foods.

The purpose of this memorandum is to clarify for state and local operators of the school meal programs the permissible use of funds from the nonprofit school food service account to lower or eliminate reduced price student meal charges.

The recipes in the cookbook feature foods both children and adults should consume more of: dark green and orange vegetables, dry beans and peas, and whole grains. All of these healthy recipes are low in total fat, saturated fat, sugar and sodium. With fun names like Porcupine Sliders, Smokin' Powerhouse Chili, and Squish Squash Lasagna, these kid-tested, kid-approved recipes are sure to please children and be an instant hit!

This policy memorandum is an addendum to WIC Policy Memorandum #2014-1, Changes to Abbott Infant Formula Product Line, issued on Dec. 4, 2013. Several WIC state agencies have requested clarification on the medical documentation requirements for infant formula issued in Food Packages I and II. Therefore, this policy memorandum provides the requested clarification.

As part of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, the Food and Nutrition Service is preparing to launch a nationwide research survey of CACFP participants that serve children up to age five.

In an effort to simplify procurement requirements for SFSP sponsors, this memorandum links existing procurement and contract thresholds referenced in the program regulations to the federal small purchase threshold currently set at $150,000.

This memorandum provides guidance and clarification regarding individual income eligibility determinations and durations in the CACFP and the SFSP.

In this webinar, the first of the series, Christina Conell and Maggie Gosselin from USDA's Food and Nutrition Service, covered basic procurement fundamentals relevant to the federal child nutrition programs. Topics include informal and formal procurement methods and maintaining competition.

The purpose of this handbook is to help adult day care centers and sponsors of these centers meet federal requirements for meal reimbursement under CACFP.
