The Floyd D. Spence National Defense Authorization Act of Fiscal Year 2001 requires the DoD to pay certain low-income service members and their families a family subsistence allowance of up to $500 per month so they will not have to rely on food stamps.
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide guidance on determining household income when it involves persons with disabilities, elderly and/or public assistance recipients.
This memorandum provides clarification regarding home delivery of commodities to those elderly, disabled, and homebound individuals that have been determined eligible to participate in FDPIR.

FNS launched the Eat Smart. Play Hard. campaign to promote USDA’s healthy eating and physical activity messages to children ages 2–18 and their caregivers. This campaign is an FNS agency-wide initiative and represents the latest effort by FNS to meet its strategic goal of improving the nutrition of children and low-income adults while at the same time addressing the major public health issue of the increasing prevalence of obesity among our nation’s youth.
