We were asked by the FCC to issue a reminder about cooperating with contractors auditing school districts’ receipt of funds under the FCC’s E-Rate fund. Auditing for the current cycle is scheduled to begin in December 2008.
In this memorandum, we present several options for consideration by the distributing agency to help ensure that service institutions receive donated foods for use in the summer meals provided in SFSP in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide a summary of the information provided during our calls with regional offices and state agencies regarding implementation of the FFVP as established in The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2008.
Since our Jan. 22, 2007 memo “Vending Machines in the School Meal Programs,” SP03-2007, we have received numerous questions regarding how they may be used in the school meal programs. The attached Questions and Answers we provided in response to these questions and as additional guidance in the use of vending machines.
By letter dated Jan. 30, 2008, USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) suspended Mr. Stan Mendell and Westland Meat Company’s (Westland Meats) eligibility to participate in any federal program, pending the results of an ongoing investigation and potential legal proceedings.
