SUBJECT: Discontinuation of the Interest Income Verification Waiver
TO: All Regional Directors
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program

The Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) has recently been reviewing its Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) waiver processes and procedures. As part of this effort, FNS has reexamined its interest income verification waivers. When a household states that it receives interest income in a state-specified amount not to exceed $50 per month or $600 per year, this waiver allows state agencies to forgo the requirement to verify the household’s statement.

In accordance with the Administration’s priority to promote program integrity, FNS has decided to discontinue this waiver. All state agencies will be required to conduct income verification, including verification of interest income of any amount, in accordance with existing statutory and regulatory requirements. This memo serves to notify SNAP state agencies that FNS is no longer approving new interest income verification waivers or extending existing waivers.

Please distribute this guidance to your state agencies and advise them to contact their respective FNS regional offices points of contact with any questions and for technical assistance.
