This final rule considers public comments submitted in response to the proposed rule revising the WIC food packages published on Nov. 21, 2022.

USDA is updating the WIC food packages to reflect current nutrition science.

Here's how the WIC food packages are changing.

The USDA, FDA, and other federal partners continue to work diligently to protect the health infants who are fed using infant formula. 

This rulemaking proposes to revise regulations governing the WIC food packages to align them with the current Dietary Guidelines for Americans and reflect recommendations made by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine in its 2017 report, “Review of WIC Food Packages: Improving Balance and Choice. while promoting nutrition security and equity and taking into account program administration considerations.

Abbott recently announced it will continue providing a rebate on competitive infant formulas redeemed prior to Nov. 30, 2022. Since your WIC state agency holds an infant formula rebate contract with Mead Johnson-Reckitt or Nestle Gerber, this information is shared for your awareness.

This memorandum provides state agencies with guidance for issuing the monthly Cash-Value Voucher/Benefit (CVV/B) for fruit and vegetable purchases to participants in WIC for FY 2023. 

Follow up to letter dated May 24, 2022 and recent listening sessions with state health commissioners and WIC state agencies.

The rule titled Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children: Revisions in the WIC Food Packages was published on March 4, 2014. The Office of Management and Budget cleared the associated information collection requirements  on April 14, 2014. This document announces approval of the ICR.

This memorandum clarifies effective and implementation dates for the lowfat (1 percent) and nonfat milks provision and expectations related to implementation.
