FNS staff discuss the updated preschool meal patterns in the National School Lunch Program (including snack service) and School Breakfast Program, as well as the updated milk requirements in the Special Milk Program, which went into effect on Oct. 1, 2017.

On April 25, 2016, FNS published the final rule, “Child and Adult Care Food Program: Meal Pattern Revisions Related to the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010” to update the National School Lunch Program’s and School Breakfast Program’s meal pattern requirements for infants and preschoolers.

This memorandum provides the SY 2016-2017 SFA-3 with revised instructions that provide additional information and clarifications to the previously released form’s instructions. The revised instructions will assist with the completion of the FNS-640 report that is due on March 1, 2018.

The purpose of this memorandum is to provide guidance to state agencies and local educational agencies (LEAs) on the option to begin verification activities before October 1.

Training is required so that individuals involved in all levels of administration of programs that receive Federal financial assistance understand Federal laws, regulations, instructions, policies and other guidance.

The manual provides comprehensive information on federal requirements, policies, and procedures, and is intended to help state agencies and local educational agencies accurately determine, certify, and verify children’s eligibility for free and reduced price school meals and free milk.

This memorandum provides guidance on meals served to preschoolers when they are in the same service area at the same time as grade K-5 students, and it includes Questions and Answers. Additional guidance on the National School Lunch Program’s and School Breakfast Program’s infant and preschool meal pattern requirements will be issued soon.

The purpose of this memorandum is to amend guidance provided in SP 45-2016 Draft Tool for Local Agency Procurement Reviews for School Food Authorities in SY 2016-17 and to clarify FNS expectations for state agency oversight of school food authority procurement procedures.

This memorandum outlines the requirements for CACFP institutions and facilities and Summer Food Service Program sponsors (program operators) to provide reasonable modifications to program meals or the meal service to accommodate children or adults (participants) with disabilities.

This memorandum addresses questions recently raised by state agencies regarding the FNS requirement to apply fiscal action school food authority-wide and assists state agencies in completing administrative reviews of SFAs in school year 2016-17.
