This request for approval of information collection is necessary to obtain input into the development of nutrition education interventions for population groups served by FNS. Collection of this information will increase FNS' ability to formulate nutrition education interventions that resonate with the intended target population, particularly low-income families.

This collection is a revision of the currently approved information collection for WIC, which contains the reporting and recordkeeping burdens associated with the WIC Program regulations.

This letter is in response to correspondence from WIC state agencies requesting flexibility with regard to the maximum monthly allowance (MMA) requirements in WIC as a result of the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the 2022 Abbott recall of certain powder infant formula on the nationwide supply chain leading to both periodic location and product-based WIC infant formula shortages.

Follow up to letter dated May 24, 2022 and recent listening sessions with state health commissioners and WIC state agencies.

This memorandum sets forth applicable parameters for implementation of the infant formula cost containment contracts and waiver authority legislative provisions, effective immediately. The provisions set forth in this policy memorandum will also be incorporated into the federal WIC regulations through future rulemaking.

This policy memorandum transmits the 2022-2023 Income Eligibility Guidelines (IEGs) for WIC that were published in the Federal Register on March 29, 2022 at 87 FR 17977.

This study informs FNS about the reasons behind underredemption of the cash-value benefit issued to participants in WIC. 

USDA announces adjusted income eligibility guidelines to be used by state agencies in determining the income eligibility of persons applying to participate in WIC. These income eligibility guidelines are to be used in conjunction with the WIC regulations.

FNS is allowing WIC agencies to waive conducting compliance investigations of a minimum of five percent of the number of vendors authorized.
