This notice announces the initial level of per-meal assistance for the Nutrition Program for the Elderly for fiscal year 1998. The fiscal year 1998 initial level of assistance is set at $.5607 for each eligible meal .

The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 made a number of changes to the National School Lunch Act which governs the waiver process in the child nutrition programs. This memorandum identifies the changes and provides guidance to be used in developing and submitting waiver requests to the child nutrition division.

However, because these State-level reports vary considerably in both format and content, FNS is unable to rely on this source for all of its ongoing information needs.
