Accommodating children with special dietary needs in the School Nutrition Programs. Guidance for school food service staff.

This Instruction outlines the policy for food substitutions and other modifications in the meal patterns necessary to meet the dietary requirements of program participants with handicaps and with other special dietary needs.

Section 10 of the Child Nutrition Act of 1966 (CNA), as amended, permits the Secretary to authorize any state or regional office, where applicable, to reserve up to 1 percent of the funds earned in any fiscal year under both the National School Lunch Act and the CNA for special developmental projects.

This Instruction sets forth the policy concerning recycling of milk and other meal components. 

This Instruction prohibits the denial of meals and milk as a disciplinary action against any child who is enrolled in a school participating in the Chile Nutrition Programs. Such denial of meals or milk is inconsistent with Section 2 and 9 of the National School Lunch Act and Sections 2,3, and 4 of the Child Nutrition Act of 1966.

This Instruction sets forth the policy with respect to reimbursement of meals consumed off-site under the National School Lunch, Commodity School, and School Breakfast Programs. 

The purpose of this instruction is to clarify our position on tax-exempt status for Summer Food Service Program sires.

This Instruction implements the agency's policy on administration of multi-state sponsoring organizations in the Child Care Food Program. 

This Instruction clarifies the Department's policy regarding the use of school feeding facilities as community resources for such activities as feeding programs for the elderly, and provides information on the nutrition program for the elderly authorized by PL 92-258.

This Instruction provides information for state agencies with respect to the matching requirements of Section 210.6 of the National School Lunch Program Regulations as they pertain to state revenues.
