Interagency Workgroup

USDA's Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) is working with the Office of Safe and Healthy Students of the Department of Education (ED) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, acting through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This Interagency Workgroup will continue to provide information and technical assistance to state and local educational agencies and school food authorities to meet these updated local school wellness policy requirements.

Technical Assistance

Materials developed to provide technical assistance in the wellness policy process, along with allied organization resources, can be found on the School Nutrition Environment and Wellness Resources site. Additional tools and resources are highlighted state agencies should direct any questions about technical assistance needs to their FNS regional Office.

Joint Collaborators' Statement

Twenty-six national associations and organizations issued a joint statement with FNS, CDC, and ED to recognize the critical role schools play in promoting wellness among staff, students, and families. These national associations and organizations affirm their support of local school wellness policies as a key framework for schools’ efforts to create a healthy environment for children that supports nutritious food choices and physically active lifestyles.
