What We Do

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Nutrition Service’s Team Nutrition Initiative supports national efforts to promote lifelong healthy food choices and physical activity by improving the nutrition practices of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). Team Nutrition wants to create a strong network of CACFP Organizations working together towards a healthier environment in child and adult care sites by disseminating Team Nutrition messages and materials.

Team Nutrition CACFP Organizations Share These Common Values:

  1. We believe that participants should be empowered to make food and physical activity choices that reflect science-based recommendations from the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, National Academy of Medicine, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
  2. We believe that good nutrition and physical activity are essential to participant's health and educational success.
  3. We believe that meals and snacks that meet the CACFP meal patterns should taste good and appeal to participants.
  4. We believe our programs must build upon the best science, education, communication, and technical resources available.
  5. We believe that partnering with families is essential to encouraging participants to make food and physical activity choices for a healthy lifestyle.
  6. We believe that messages to participants should be age appropriate and delivered in the language they speak and in ways that are entertaining and actively involve them in learning.
  7. We believe in focusing on positive messages regarding food and physical activity choices participants can make.
  8. We believe it is critical to stimulate and support education and action at the national, State, and local levels to help children develop healthy eating and physical activity behaviors.

Why Should Your Organization Join The Team?

Signing up to be a Team Nutrition CACFP Organization is free and easy. All organizations with a written agreement to participate in the Child and Adult Care Food Program can sign up. We ask that organizations designate a Nutrition Education or Training Contact who will be the champion who spreads the word. By signing up, your organization will:

  • Affirm the commitment to helping young children and adults make healthier food choices and be more physically active.
  • Have the opportunity to be highlighted on Team Nutrition social media and in print publications.
  • Be the first to hear about new nutrition education and training materials developed under the Team Nutrition initiative for the CACFP.
  • Receive special nutrition education and promotion materials.
  • Have the opportunity to collaborate with other CACFP organizations.

Team Nutrition CACFP Organization application is part of the Team Nutrition initiative.
