FNS works with state agencies to ensure eligible individuals and households can make informed decisions about applying for the program and access nutrition assistance benefits. FNS also provides technical assistance as needed.

State agencies are responsible for general program administration and ensuring program integrity. State agencies determine the eligibility of individuals and households to receive SNAP benefits, and issue monthly allotments of benefits.
