SNAP Telephonic Signature Guidance
This memo is to inform you of clarifications related to the use of telephonic signatures in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Sections 11(e)(2)(B)(iv) of the Food and Nutrition Act of 008 (the Act), as amended, requires that State agencies consider an application to be complete if it contains the client's name, address, and signature. Section 11(e)(2)(C)(ii) of the Act provides a State option for SNAP applicants to sign their applications with a telephonic signature. This provision went into effect on October 1, 2008.
