SNAP benefits are issued via Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT). EBT allows you, the retailer, to accept SNAP payment for eligible food  at the point-of-sale by accepting the EBT card—a kind of debit card.

FNS is responsible for the licensing and monitoring of retail food stores participating in SNAP.   Any retailer that would like to accept SNAP Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) benefits must: 

Eligible store owners may apply online to accept SNAP benefits.  The online application can be completed in as little as 15 minutes.   

A SNAP license and FNS authorization number cannot be transferred  to someone else.  A SNAP license becomes void if a store changes ownership, moves, or closes.
