TO: | State Agencies Child Nutrition Programs All States | Regional Directors Special Nutrition Programs All Regions |
Attached for your information are copies of the 2009 SFSP reimbursement rates and the Federal Register notice announcing them. This notice, published at 74 FR 2508 on Jan. 15, 2009, informs the public of the annual adjustments to the reimbursement rates for meals served in SFSP. These adjustments address changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), as required under the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act (NSLA).
The 2009 rate adjustments reflect a 4.9 percent increase in the food away from home series of the CPI for All Urban Consumers. The notice, for the first time, presents them as a combined set of rates to highlight simplified cost accounting procedures that were extended nationwide by enactment of the fiscal year 2008 Consolidated Appropriations Act (PL 110-161). Separate operating and administrative rates, which show how each rate is adjusted differently for inflation, are also presented, since the NSLA maintains this structure for annual adjustment purposes.
