This Notice announces the annual adjustments to the "national average payments," the amount of money the federal government provides states for lunches, afterschool snacks and breakfasts served to children participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs; to the "maximum reimbursement rates," the maximum per lunch rate from federal funds that a state can provide a school food authority for lunches served to children participating in the National School Lunch Program; and to the rate of reimbursement for a half-pint of milk served to non-needy children in a school or institution which participates in the Special Milk Program for Children.
USDA is holding a public hearing to offer state agencies, advocacy groups and other interested parties an opportunity for public dialogue on issues concerning the regulatory provisions that are to be published in connection with the Food Stamp Act amendments made by the Leland Act.
To amend the Food Stamp Act of 1977 to respond to the hunger emergency afflicting American families and the children, to attack the causes of hunger among all Americans, to ensure an adequate diet for low-income people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness because of the shortage of affordable housing, to promote self-sufficiency among food stamp recipients, to assist families affected by adverse economic conditions, to simplify food assistance programs' administration, and for other purposes.
