Final Rule: Direct Certification of Eligibility for Free and Reduced Price Meals and Free Milk in Schools

 This rule amends the regulations governing the determination of eligibility for free and reduced price school meals under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program or free milk in schools participating in the Special Milk Program.

Letter to Regions on Categorical Eligibility

This memo clarifies that any time all members of a household receive benefits under a program for needy families funded primarily through Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), whether cash or other benefits such as services, the TANF resource rules apply and thus an income eligible working family can both own a car and obtain food stamps.

Certifying Eligibility of Sites Serving American Indian or Alaska Native Children

This memorandum permits SFSP sponsors to use information from a tribal authority to certify the eligibility of certain sites serving American Indian or Alaska Native children. It is intended to make it easier for sponsors to reach children on reservations and tribal lands where SFSP continues to be underutilized.
