FNS-101: Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program

The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) provides free, fresh fruits and vegetables to children at eligible elementary schools during the school day. The goal of FFVP is to introduce children to new fresh fruits and vegetables and increase overall their acceptance and consumption of fresh, unprocessed produce. The FFVP also incorporates nutrition education.

Assesses the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, expanded across the nation by the FCEA, to determine whether children (a) experienced, as a result of participating in the program, increased consumption of fruits and vegetables and (b) made other dietary changes, such as decreased consumption of less nutritious foods.

Fresh Fruits and Vegetable Program - A Handbook for Schools

The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) provides all children in participating schools with a variety of free fresh fruits and vegetables throughout the school day.  It is an effective and creative way of introducing fresh fruits and vegetables as healthy snack options.  The FFVP also encourages schools to develop partnerships at the State and local level for support in implementing and operating the program.
