The purpose of this memorandum is to revise guidance on rural designations in the Summer Food Service Program and the National School Lunch Program’s Seamless Summer Option (SSO). The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 authorized a permanent non-congregate meal service option through the SFSP and SSO for children who live in rural communities with no congregate meal service. This notice informs the public of the annual adjustments to the reimbursement rates for meals served in the Summer Food Service Program for children. The 2022 reimbursement rates are presented as a combined set of rates to highlight simplified cost accounting procedures and are also presented individually, as separate operating and administrative rates of reimbursement, to show the effect of the Consumer Price Index adjustment on each rate.
