Food Distribution Program: Value of Donated Foods (July 1, 2017 - June 30, 2018)

This notice announces the national average value of donated foods or, where applicable, cash in lieu of donated foods, to be provided in school year 2018 (July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018) for each lunch served by schools participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), and for each lunch and supper served by institutions participating in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).

Comments Request - Evaluation of the School Meal Data Collection Process

FNS is conducting a study, the Evaluation of the School Meal Data Collection Process, to provide a description and evaluation of the methodologies and processes used to collect and report program data for the school meal programs via the FNS-10, FNS-742, and FNS-834 forms. The key research objectives relate to assessing how schools/sites, SFAs, and State agencies handle the following three functions: Collect/aggregate data, process or validate data, and transmit data about the school meal programs. The ultimate objective is to understand the likely sources of error within each of these functions at each reporting level.

Administrative Reviews in the School Nutrition Programs; Approval of Information Collection Request

The final rule titled Administrative Reviews in the School Nutrition Programs was published on July 29, 2016 (81 FR 50170). The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) cleared the associated information collection requirements (ICR) on Sept. 12, 2016. This document announces approval of the ICR.

This collection is the voluntary submission of data including nutrient data from the food industry to update and expand the Child Nutrition Database in support of the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act.

In accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, this notice invites the general public and other public agencies to comment on this proposed information collection. This is a new collection for facilitating a communication network among CACFP organizations and USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) Child Nutrition Programs, as well as between schools participating in the National School Breakfast Program and National School Lunch programs, both via the Team Nutrition initiative.

This notice announces the annual adjustments to the national average payment rates for meals and snacks served in child care centers, outside-school-hours care centers, at-risk afterschool care centers, and adult day care centers; the food service payment rates for meals and snacks served in day care homes; and the administrative reimbursement rates for sponsoring organizations of day care homes, to reflect changes in the Consumer Price Index.

Interim Final Rule: Child Nutrition Program Flexibilities for Milk, Whole Grains, and Sodium Requirements

This interim final rule extends through school year 2018-2019 three menu planning flexibilities currently available to many Child Nutrition Program operators, giving them near-term certainty about program requirements and more local control to serve nutritious and appealing meals to millions of children nationwide.

National School Lunch, Special Milk, and School Breakfast Programs, National Average Payments/Maximum Reimbursement Rates (July 1, 2017 - June 30, 2018)

This Notice announces the annual adjustments to the “national average payments,” the amount of money the Federal Government provides States for lunches, afterschool snacks, and breakfasts served to children participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs; to the “maximum reimbursement rates,” the maximum per lunch rate from Federal funds that a State can provide a school food authority for lunches served to children participating in the National School Lunch Program; and to the rate of reimbursement for a half-pint of milk served to non-needy children in a school or institution that participates in the Special Milk Program for Children.

This collection is a new collection. The purpose of the Summer Meals Study is for the Food and Nutrition Service to understand the facilitators and barriers to program implementation, perceived benefits and challenges for sponsor and site participation, nutritional quality of meals served, parental awareness, factors influencing child participation, and experience with the Summer Food Service Program and the National School Lunch Program's Seamless Summer Option.
