MyPlate replaced MyPyramid and the Food Guide Pyramid in June 2011. MyPlate is part of a larger communication initiative based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans to help consumers make better food choices. MyPlate is designed to remind Americans to eat healthfully, and is not intended to change consumer behavior alone. MyPlate illustrates the five food groups using a familiar mealtime visual -- a place setting.
The MyPlate Plan shows your food group targets -– what and how much to eat within your calorie allowance. Your food plan is personalized, based on your age, sex, height, weight, and physical activity level. The MyPlate Plan is available in English and Spanish. Additionally, the MyPlate icon is available in English, Spanish (MiPlato), and 21 additional languages.
