Incident: Severe Storms

When: June 17, 2023

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • On June 28, 2023, FNS approved the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS) request to waive the 10-day reporting requirement for food purchased with SNAP benefits that was lost as a result of power outages due to severe storms that began on June 17, 2023. The waiver request applies to residents in the following 32 counties: Harper, Ellis, Major, Logan, Oklahoma, Carter, Choctaw, Leflore, Latimer, Pittsburg, Hughes, Seminole, Pottawatomie, Lincoln, Osage, Pawnee, Delaware, Cherokee, Sequoyah, Okmulgee, Atoka, Creek, Johnston, McCurtain, McIntosh, Mayes, Muskogee, Payne, Pushmataha, Rogers, Tulsa and Wagoner. The waiver is in effect through July 7, 2023.
  • On June 23, 2023, FNS approved the Oklahoma DHS request to issue mass replacements to impacted households. This waiver approval allows households to receive replacement of benefits as stated in the approval due to power outages as a result of severe storms that began on June 17, 2023. The waiver request applies to the counties of Atoka, Creek, Johnston, McCurtain, McIntosh, Mayes, Muskogee, Payne, Pushmataha, Rogers, Tulsa and Wagoner.
Child Nutrition Programs
  • On June 23, 2023, FNS approved Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) request for waivers relating to child nutrition program operations impacted by power outages and severe storms that began on June 17, 2023. Under the waiver approval, program operators in Oklahoma may serve meals through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) Seamless Summer Option (SSO) and Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) in a non-congregate setting, allow parent pick up, and adjust the time of meal service. The waivers are in effect through July 10, 2023.

 

Incident: Tornado

When: April 19, 2023

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • On May 11, 2023, FNS approved the Oklahoma Human Services’ (OHS) request to modify and extend their D-SNAP operation in response to the impact of tornadoes on April 19, 2023. Due to these incidents, President Biden issued a major disaster declaration with federal individual assistance for two counties (McClain and Pottawatomie) on April 24, 2023. The declaration was amended on May 3, 2023 to include Cleveland County. The state agency was approved to expand D-SNAP operations to Cleveland County and extend the application period for Pottawatomie County. The state will open the application period for households in Cleveland County on Monday, May 15, 2023, and will operate until Friday, May 19, 2023. The state will extend the application period for households in Pottawatomie County to Monday, May 15, 2023, until Friday, May 19, 2023.
  • On May 3, 2023, FNS approved the Oklahoma request to operate D-SNAP in two counties in response to the impact of thunderstorms and tornadoes that began on April 19, 2023. Due to these incidents, President Biden issued a major disaster declaration with federal individual assistance for McClain and Pottawatomie Counties on April 24, 2023. The state will operate the D-SNAP for five consecutive days on Monday, May 8, 2023, through Friday, May 12, 2023.
  • On April 28, 2023, FNS approved the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS) request to waive the 10-day reporting requirement for replacement of food purchased with SNAP benefits that was lost as a result of power outages due to tornadoes and storms that occurred on April 19, 2023, and April 20, 2023. The waiver request applies to the five counties of Lincoln, Cleveland, Oklahoma, Pottawatomie and McClain. The waiver is in effect through May 19, 2023.

When: Feb. 26, 2023

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • On March 10, 2023, FNS approved the Oklahoma Department of Human Services request to waive the 10-day reporting requirement for replacement of food purchased with SNAP benefits that were lost as a result of prolonged power outages due to thunderstorms and tornados that occurred on February 26 and 27, 2023. The waiver applies to households in Roger Mills, Cleveland, Stephens, Pottawatomie and McClain counties. The waiver will be in effect through March 30, 2023.

  • On Nov. 22, 2022, FNS approved the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS) request to waive the 10-day reporting requirement for replacement of food purchased with SNAP benefits that was lost as a result of power outages that began on Nov. 4, 2022. The waiver applies to the counties of Bryan, Choctaw and McCurtain. The waiver is in effect through Dec. 13, 2022.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • On May 23, 2022, FNS approved the Oklahoma Department of Human Services request to waive the 10-day reporting requirement for replacement of food purchased with SNAP benefits that were lost as a result of power outages, thunderstorms and tornadoes that began on May 4, 2022. The waiver approval allows households to make a request for replacement SNAP benefits through June 14, 2022. The waiver applies to the counties of Muskogee, Okmulgee, Pittsburg, Pottawatomie, Seminole and Tulsa.

Incident: Ice Storm

When: Oct. 26, 2020

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • On Nov. 13, 2020, FNS approved Oklahoma’s request to waive timely reporting of food loss for households in the state of Oklahoma. This waiver approval allows households to make a request for replacement of SNAP benefits through Nov. 17, 2020, as a result of widespread ice storms and power outages that began on Oct. 26, 2020.

Incident: Power Outages and Flooding

When: May 1, 2019

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programs (SNAP)
  • On May 31, 2019, FNS approved the Oklahoma Department of Human Services request to waive timely reporting of food loss for households in the state of Oklahoma. This waiver approval will allow affected households throughout the state to make a request for replacement of SNAP benefits through June 28, 2019. These replacement SNAP benefits will allow households to replace food lost due to power outages and flooding caused by severe weather that began on May 1, 2019.
