The Thrifty Food Plan (TFP), a fundamental part of the U.S. food guidance system, is now revised. The TFP provides a representative healthful and minimal cost meal plan to demonstrate how a nutritious diet may be achieved utilizing a modest budget or food stamp benefits. This revision incorporates recent developments in nutrition standards and dietary guidance as well as updates reflective of food consumption and food nutrient content information. It is possible to obtain a healthful diet meeting current nutritional standards at a constant real cost equal to the previous Thrift Food Plan.
