The purpose of this memorandum is to address recent inquiries on the application of the geographic preference option in the procurement of unprocessed locally grown or raised agricultural products. This memorandum provides additional guidance and technical assistance to memorandum SP18-2011, Procurement Geographic Preference Q&As, which was issued on Feb. 1, 2011 and CACFP09 SFSP08-2008, issued July 3, 2008. State agencies are encouraged to share these Q&As with their counterparts at other state departments (e.g., Department of Agriculture or Department of Health) that are involved in local or regional procurement, or other farm to school activities.
