CACFP Child Care Wellness Grant FY 2010
The Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2010 (PL 111-80) authorized the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) to award $8 million in grants to state agencies administering the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) for projects aimed at improving the health and nutrition of children in child care settings.
Purpose
The Child and Adult Care Food Program is a meal reimbursement program for eligible children and adults who attend non-residential day care facilities. The purpose of this grant is to provide awards, on a competitive basis, to state agencies administering the child care portion of the CACFP to develop and implement programs promoting the health and nutrition improvement of children in child care settings.
State agencies receiving grant funding must use no less than 50 percent of grant funds to award sub-grants to child care institutions to promote the health and nutrition improvement of children in child care settings. We encourage potential applicants to carefully read the review and selection criteria on pages 7-9. These criteria demonstrate the qualities FNS expects successful proposals to have, and will guide the reviewers’ evaluation of proposals.
