| Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced in a press release dated September 21, 2010, “USDA Announces Technology Grants for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children” that nearly $14 million of competitive FY 2010 technology grant funds have been awarded to 13 WIC State agencies. These competitive grant awards will be used to improve technology and enhance benefit delivery systems for the WIC Program. Eight of the 13 WIC State agencies received Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) planning grant funds; three received EBT implementation grant funds; and six received funding for technical standardization projects. In addition to the competitive grant awards, USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service awarded $16 million of FY 2010 technology grant funds to 10 WIC State agencies for continued support of their existing EBT projects or State Agency Model (SAM) transfer projects. Other technology grant funds awarded this fiscal year include $4.2 million of recovered American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grant funds to three WIC State agencies for technology projects that were not fully funded under their original ARRA grant award. |
