2000 TN Grants
Arizona |
Through this Team Nutrition Training Grant, Arizona will teach administrators, teachers,
parents and community members the importance of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans
2000. Specifically there are three key objectives: (1) to provide training on the Dietary
Guidelines to teachers, parents, staff, administrators, and community volunteers by using
the garden as a tool for teaching proper nutrition and physical activity; (2) to establish a
cadre of school decision-makers that will practice the principles of the Dietary
Guidelines for Americans 2000 in their own lives thus becoming role models for the
children around them; and (3) to create an effective training and support program which
can be implemented in other States.

Grant objectives include a new, innovative approach to providing information about the
Dietary Guidelines for Americans to a wide cross section of decision makers including
child care administrators and nutrition educators, teachers and school administrators,
school food service personnel, child care home providers, and parents. This will be done
through a Statewide Child Nutrition Summit whose primary focus is to raise the
awareness of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2000 by local decision makers. The
Summit will form the basis of many subsequent activities including a new grant program
designed for local agencies that administer the Child and Adult Care Food Program. The
local grants will allow agencies to create custom-designed local strategies to further the
Dietary Guidelines message of the Summit. Additionally, in-service training will be
expanded and offered to the directors of child care centers and nutrition educators from
agencies that sponsor the family child care home component of the CACFP, and to
teachers.

Vermont |
Vermont's Team Nutrition training Grant has three parts. One will provide a series of
training sessions for food service personnel on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans
2000. The objective for this training series is to provide information to school and child

awareness about the Dietary Guidelines among Vermonters. This will be done by way of
a new web site for Vermont's Child Nutrition Programs that focuses on the Dietary
Guidelines and how the guidelines can be implemented in school food service programs,
day care settings, and at home. Three Kick-off Celebrations will be held to inform
parents as well as school and child care administrators, teachers and food service staff
about the web site. The objective for the third part is to provide administrators and food
service managers with adequate information about the Dietary Guidelines so they can
take specific actions to implement the Guidelines in the program they operate.
