Profiles of Promising Practices that Result in Increased Participation or Improved Access to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program

FNS is compiling information on States’ “promising practices” that improve access to SNAP. Examples of promising practices include changes to a State agency’s administration of SNAP that make applying for benefits easier, implementation of a toll-free hotline, or production of an activity sheet to that will keep children occupied in the waiting room. FNS is profiling examples on this web site with the hope that they will inspire discussion or changes in procedures that result in increased participation in or improved access to SNAP.

If a State agency or Regional office becomes aware of a promising practice that it would like to share, please fill out the promising practice form (see link below), providing as much information as possible, and submit it to Moira.Johnston@fns.usda.gov. Please note that examples of promising practices that we are looking for differ from outreach activities in that they focus on administrative procedures that improve access to SNAP rather than on outreach activities that increase participation in SNAP.
