2012 Summer
Food for Children Demonstrations
In the 2010 Agriculture
Appropriations Act (P.L. 111-80), Congress authorized
demonstration projects to develop and
test methods of providing access to food
for low-income children in urban and
rural areas during the summer months
when schools are not in regular session,
as well as a rigorous independent
evaluation of the projects regarding
their effectiveness.
The Food and Nutrition Service (FNS)
launched the first of these projects,
known as the Summer Food for Children
Demonstrations, in the summer of 2010.
Additional projects are planned over the
next several summers. States will be
selected to operate the demonstrations based on a
competitive proposal process.
Application materials and additional
information are provided below. We
encourage all States to apply for this
exciting opportunity to find innovative ways
to reduce and prevent childhood food
insecurity and hunger during the summer.
Applications are due in the Fall, exact
dates vary. Please consult the materials
below to determine which projects best
suit your state.
