Goal:
Promote consumption of fruits and
vegetables through partnerships and
collaborative interventions between the
nutrition assistance programs and other
related groups.
Objective:
Implement social marketing campaign
to promote the consumption of fruits and
vegetables.
Accomplishment:

WV
SNAP continues to implement the
"Pick-A-Better-Snack" (PABS)
social marketing campaign to promote
FF & V consumption in targeted
areas throughout WV. Each SNAP team
member has identified ways it will
participate in the effort.

Received
second $20,000 Community Based
Initiative (CBI) Grant to promote
increased fruit and vegetable
consumption among low-income
families and youth throughout West
Virginia. Five strategies are being
utilized: media events, billboards,
advertisements, educational
materials and public service
announcements.

PABS
Bookmarks, recipe cards, posters,
flyers, placemats and stickers have
been printed and distributed by SNAP
partners.
-
PABS
newsletters will be developed for
distribution FY2008.
-
Billboards
are scheduled to be posted
March-June in five major areas of
the state.

- Media events to promote the
campaign are being conducted during
FY 2008:
March - WVU Extension Office
in Morgantown
April - WV Retailers
Association (WVRA) hosting an event at
Hurricane at Super Walmart.
May- event in the Martinsburg
area.
June-event in the Wheeling
area.
July- Promote PABS in Ripley.
August - Promote PABS at the WV
State fair.

Radio
and TV PSA's have been developed and
will continue to run through June
2008.

Newspaper
ads will run in conjunction with
events in Morgantown, Martinsburg,
Wheeling and Hurricane.

agencies throughout the state.
Accomplishment:

Members are meeting monthly to
discuss PABS campaign and future
projects. In addition, partners give
updates on current and future
projects in order to establish
collaboration opportunities.

Members are participating in the
Kanawha Valley Coalition
meetings/projects.

New
partners have joined the SNAP team
and additional organizations
continue to show interest in
partnering with the WV Nutrition
Network.
