The Farm
Security and Rural Investment Act of
2002 authorized the operation of the
Food Stamp Program, the Nutrition
Assistance Program in Puerto Rico, the
Food Distribution Program on Indian
Reservations, The Emergency Food
Assistance Program, and the Senior
Farmers' Market Nutrition Program
through fiscal year 2007. In preparation
for reauthorization, the United States
Department of Agriculture's Food and
Nutrition Service (FNS) is participating
in a series of public forums around the
country.
|
The goals of
the public forums are to:
-
build a
common understanding of program
objectives and accomplishments,
-
identify
key features that contribute to each
program's success, and
-
identify
features that should be altered to
achieve program objectives more
fully.
