FNS Stand Alone Pre-Screening Tool

This document provides detailed information for users that wish to run the FNS Pre-Screening Tool application from any browser worldwide as easily as he or she would if launching the application in a client-server network environment. Use of the stand-alone distribution is governed by your license for the FNS product. Some of the software in this package is free software developed by third parties. Wherever this is the case, it is specifically noted, and those applications are governed by the license given to it by its author.

The FNS installation process has two parts. The first part installs the database server and copies necessary files onto the users computer. This step may require that the computer be restarted. The second part makes configuration changes.

This documentation is divided into two sections:

  1. Setup -- how to setup your environment for running the FNS Pre-Screening Tool.

  2. Installation -- install procedure for the FNS application.

  3. Using FNS -- how to start and launch the FNS application

1. Setup

Getting your machine ready for FNS requires a few steps.

System Requirements

    Windows 95/98/Me/XP or Windows NT/2000 (NT 3.51 & 4.0 or later).

    Except on Windows 98 and Window Millennium Edition, file and print sharing must be active to run the Setup. To verify:

    1. In Control Panel, double-click Network Connections.
    2. On the Advanced menu, click Advanced Settings.
    3. On the Adaptors and Bindings tab, ensure that File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks is selected.

    MSDE 2000 Release A installation will fail if either of the following security policies has been set to Do not allow installation:

    • The Devices: Unsigned driver installation behavior local security policy for Windows XP.
    • The Unsigned non-driver installation behavior local security policy for Windows 2000.

Browser Requirements

    Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or later be installed. A minimum installation is sufficient, and Internet Explorer does not have to be the default browser.

    NOTICE:  If you are using Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher, you may experience issues with installing this application, and it may not function properly.  It is recommended that only versions 5.x or 6.x of Internet Explorer be used for downloading, installing, and using this application.

     

2. Installation

    First part of the installation process:

    1. Download the following file to your computer:
       
    2. Open the Windows File Manager or Explorer to locate the file (fns_pre_install.exe) on your PC's hardisk.
    3. To start the installation process just double click on the file (fns_pre_install.exe). The installation program will be started automatically.
      • Click the 'Next' button twice
      • The destination directory will be chosen for you, this can't be changed, click 'Next'. Choose 'Yes' to create the directory if it doesn't exist.
      • Click 'Start' to begin the installation process, this will copy files to your hard disk and install the database server.
      • At this point you may be prompted to restart the computer. Click 'Yes' to restart. Otherwise click 'Next' and click 'Exit' to finish this part of the installation

    Second part of the installation process:

    1. Download the following file to your computer:
       


       

    1. Open the Windows File Manager or Explorer to locate the file (fns.install.exe) on your computer.
    1. Double click on the file (fns_install.exe). The installation program will be started automatically.
      • Click the 'Next' button twice
      • Click 'Start' to begin the installation process, this will copy files to your hard disk and configure the database server.
      • If prompted for the Computer Name when installing on a Windows 98 computer
        • On the Desktop double-click on My Computer to open the folder
        • In the My Computer window that opens, double-click on Control Panel
        • In the Control Panel window, double-click on Network
        • Click on the tab called "Identification", the computer name will be listed there.
      • Click 'Ok' when the SQL Server Service Control Manager Utility opens an informative window.
      • Click 'Next' and then 'Exit' to finish the installation
    2. At this point you are ready to run

3. Running FNS

    Now that FNS is installed on your PC and the program group and FNS icon are available in the program manager, this is what is required to run it:

    • Double click the icon (shortcut) to start up FNS
    • FNS will show the Console Dialogue:


    • Click the 'Start' button to startup the application:


    • Click the 'Launch' button to open an Internet Explorer window to the site (http://127.0.0.1:8080/fns):


    • FNS is now set up and totally ready to use.
