Promising Practices
Profiles of Promising Practices that Result in Increased
Participation or Improved Access to the Food Stamp Program
FNS is compiling information on States’ “promising practices” that
improve access to the Food Stamp Program (FSP). Examples of promising
practices include changes to a State agency’s administration of the FSP
that make applying for benefits easier, implementation of a toll-free
hotline, or production of an activity sheet to that will keep children
occupied in the waiting room. FNS is profiling examples on this web site
with the hope that they will inspire discussion or changes in procedures
that result in increased participation in or improved access to the FSP.
If a State agency or Regional office becomes aware of a promising
practice that it would like to share, please fill out the promising
practice form (see link below), providing as much information as
possible, and submit it to
Moira.Johnston@fns.usda.gov. Please note that examples of promising
practices that we are looking for differ from outreach activities in
that they focus on administrative procedures that improve access to the
FSP rather than on outreach activities that increase participation in
the FSP.
If you have any questions or need additional information on promising
practices, please contact Moira Johnston at 703-305-2515. For
information on outreach activities, please contact Laura Griffin at
703-605-4399.
