Distribution of FSP Information to Community
Orange County, North Carolina

The Orange County office in North Carolina distributes FSP information to the community several times a year to increase awareness of the Program and to increase participation. Information is shared via e-mail to 60 organizations, grocery stores, and resource centers. During community fairs (such as the Smart Start Family Fest, Apple Chill, Hog Day and Festifall celebrations) the county hosts a booth to distribute written material; such as pamphlets, brochures, and other information in English and Spanish. No policy changes were required for this practice, which promotes awareness of the FSP and other social service related programs to increase participation within the county. Staff time and the printing of brochures and pamphlets are required to implement the practice. Since this practice was implemented in 2003, the county has seen an increase in participation.
