One Mom’s Story:
Worrying when kids don’t eat
Sometimes I worry when my son doesn’t want to eat. My doctor said not to force him. She said that his appetite could vary depending on how active he is and how much he’s growing. She also said that small children eat what they need over time, so I should offer a variety of healthy meals and snacks throughout the day. If he’s not hungry now, he’ll make up for it later. That’s why if my son eats a healthy breakfast and lunch, and has fruit and veggies for snacks, I know he might not eat much at dinnertime. When he tells me he’s full, I believe him. And it’s OK if he doesn’t eat much, because I know he’s getting healthy foods at other times of the day.
