NEW YORK, NY, March 12, 2008 -- Deputy Under Secretary Kate Houston and former USDA Secretary Dan Glickman were the keynote speakers at the New York Hunger Summit hosted by MAZON at the UJA-Federation Headquarters. The Summit, attended by approximately 80 Jewish congregational leaders, was designed to educate the leaders about hunger and to develop ideas to engage their congregants in the struggle against hunger in the Jewish community. In New York City, 1 in 3 Jews lives at or near the poverty level line and food insecurity has been worsening due to declining food inventories at the food banks and dwindling kosher foods.
