Food Distribution

Food Ordering Coordination

Within USDA, the Food and Nutrition Service's (FNS) Food Distribution Division is responsible coordinating and processing food orders received from State Distributing Agencies for USDA commodities.  FNS also works closely with the other USDA partner agencies to acquire and distribute commodities Sates and recipient agencies participating in Food Distribution Programs: 

Bullet The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS), which purchases beef, fish, pork, fruits and vegetable products, and poultry and egg products. 
 
Bullet The Farm Service Agency (FSA) Commodity Operations, which purchases dairy products and other processed products such as bakery mix, crackers, cornmeal, flour, fortified cereal, macaroni & cheese, peanut products, rice, shortening, and vegetable oils.  
 
Bullet The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), which ensures the safety of USDA commodities and issues product recalls for unsafe foods.
