Commodity Processing Snapshot

Here you will find a brief description about Commodity Processing and a link to the home page where you will find additional information about National Processing Agreements (NPA) and State Processing.

How it Works
Commodity Processing allows State distributing agencies and eligible recipient agencies such as school districts to contract with commercial food processors to convert raw bulk USDA commodities into more convenient, ready-to-use end products. Most of the commodities processed through the program go to schools participating in the National School Lunch Program.

Also, in an effort to reduce costs and paperwork, all multi-state processors must enter into a National Processing Agreement with FNS which has taken on the roll of holding the agreement with the processor and approving all of the end products that will be manufactured under the agreement.
