Dan Christenson
Chief of Staff

Dan Christenson was appointed to serve as the Chief of Staff in the USDA’s Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services (FNCS) in March 2014, after serving as Acting Chief of Staff since August 2011. Prior to this appointment, Christenson served as Senior Policy Advisor to the Administrator of USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS).                                 

Before joining USDA, Dan served for several years as a Senior Professional Staff Member on the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee (2005-2011); first under Chairman Tom Harkin (2005-2009), and later to Chairwoman Blanche Lincoln (2009-2011). During his time on the Senate Agriculture Committee, Dan helped to craft the nutrition and specialty crop titles of the 2008 farm bill, as well as the 2010 Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act.

Dan received his B.A. from Luther College in May 2002, and his M.A. from Iowa State University in May 2004.
