Department of Education and Early Development
The Alaska Department of Education and Early Development has applied for an ART Method II implementation grant to create a software solution to improve program integrity in the administration of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program. The proposed software solution will automate manual systems, gather data, and provide real time monitoring and benchmarking. It will identify and target error-prone schools, identify specific corrective action, and measure the impact and success of the corrective action taken. With the proposed system, Alaska Child Nutrition Programs will move from a reactive model of corrective action to a proactive model of identifying at-risk schools through remote monitoring without leaving the state office, reducing the potential of human error and focusing scarce resources where needed for improving the administrative review process.

Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education applied for an ART Method II implementation grant to expand and intensify its efforts to address barriers to effective learning. Results from a previous grant project revealed Massachusetts’ critical need to provide relevant, learner directed education to school nutrition personnel at all levels to improve skills and increase confidence in using technology needed to implement USDA requirements for meal quality and accountability. Additional technology tools will be developed to facilitate accurate monitoring and reporting at site and district levels. Also as a part of their project, Massachusetts will enhance the School Meals Accountability and Responsibility Training Tools (SMARTTs). The project will expand and intensify the State’s efforts to address barriers to effective learning as key to further reducing errors in carrying out program operational procedures at the district and site levels for benefit issuance, meal counting and claiming.
