1. Does the USDA offer any grants to help get farm to school efforts off the ground?
The Department offers several grant opportunities from various agencies within USDA. The Supporting Farm to School webpage provides information on USDA grant opportunities that may be of assistance in beginning or expanding farm to school efforts. In addition, USDA has several resources to assist with the implementation of farm to school efforts. Those resources are provided on the UDSA Farm to School website in a section entitled Resources.

School districts, as well as farmers, are encouraged to contact their local extension office, and Departments of Agriculture and Education to see if local and/or regional funding opportunities or resources are available.

2. Will the Fresh Fruits and Vegetable Program be expanded to secondary schools?
Not at this time. The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program only targets high-need elementary schools.

3. Can SNAP-Ed funds be used to support garden-based nutrition education and other Farm to School efforts?
Schools are encouraged to contact their applicable State agency which administers SNAP (Special Nutrition Assistance Program) in their State for details on SNAP-Ed funding opportunities.

4. Are there reimbursement incentives for school food service to purchase local products?
No additional funds have been authorized in the Child Nutrition Act.
