JOHANNS AND OTHER USDA OFFICIALS CONTINUE FARM BILL LISTENING TOUR

WASHINGTON Sept. 14, 2005 - The public is invited to attend and offer comments on farm bill policy as Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns and other top USDA officials continue the nationwide farm bill listening tour.

"I'm learning a great deal from the people participating in the Farm Bill Forums," said Johanns. "These forums present a tremendous opportunity for the citizens we serve to have a voice in the development of a new farm bill."

The Secretary will host the following Farm Bill Forums:

  • Sept. 15, Grand Island, Nebraska, Husker Harvest Days, 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. (CDT)
  • Sept. 20, Farm Science Review, London, Ohio, 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. (EDT)
  • Sept. 22, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma State Fair, 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. (CDT)
  • Sept. 27, Orlando, Florida, Omni Orlando Resort, International Ballroom, 1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. (EDT)

The following specialty Farm Bill Forum will be hosted by Natural Resources and Environment Under Secretary Mark Rey:

  • Oct. 1, Berlin Fair, Berlin, Connecticut, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (EDT)

The following specialty Farm Bill Forums will be hosted by Food Nutrition and Consumer Services Under Secretary Eric Bost:

  • Sept. 29, New York City, New York, Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House Auditorium, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (EDT)
  • Sept. 30, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Little America Hotel, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. (MDT)
  • Oct. 6, Oakland, California, Oakland Federal Building, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (PDT)
  • Oct 14, Baltimore, Maryland, Enoch Pratt Public Library, time forthcoming

The Secretary has now conducted forums in Tennessee, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, California and Pennsylvania, Alabama, New Mexico, Kentucky, Illinois, Kansas and Utah.

Forums have also been conducted by top USDA officials in Indiana, Wyoming, Alaska Idaho and South Dakota.
