The FY 2012 national payment error rate of 3.42 percent represents the lowest rate in the history of the Program. The 3.42 percent is the sixth year in a row that the national payment error rate has been lower than the previous year, and the ninth year in a row that it has been below the 6 percent rate established in the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 as the standard for State payment error rates.
States receiving FY 2012 performance bonuses were also announced with the release of the quality control error rates on June 21, 2013. The awardees for best and most improved payment accuracy will divide $24 million based on caseload. These States are Alabama, Alaska, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, South Carolina, South Dakota, Virginia, and Wisconsin for best payment accuracy and Maryland for most improved payment accuracy.
