Goal:  

Promote Healthy Eating and Active Lifestyles

Promote adoption of healthy dietary patterns and regular physical activity among individuals, families and communities based on key messages in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. (Use/adapt Team Nutrition, Loving Support, Eat Smart. Play Hard.TM, and other national resources whenever possible.)

Objective 1:

By September, 2006, reach over 10,000 Wisconsin residents with 3 My Pyramid educational messages in settings such as WIC, public schools, senior meal sites, food pantries and child and adult care centers.

Tactics:

  • Collaborate to promote three MyPyramid messages: participate in UW-Extension teleconference.

Objective 2:

By September, 2006, reach over 10,000 food stamp eligible WI residents with lessons and activities promoting physical activity and healthy food choices through the "Stepping Up To A Healthy Lifestyle" nutrition education campaign.

Tactics:

  • Collaborate to promote the "Stepping Up To A Healthy Lifestyle" campaign: update lessons and materials from '05 campaign as needed, develop additional lessons and materials, recruit local agency teams, conduct training for the teams, implement the campaign, and evaluate the campaign.

Goal:

Promote Healthy Eating and Active Lifestyles

Collaborate across FNS Programs and with community groups to communicate consistent nutrition messages through multiple channels in order to reduce the risk of overweight and obesity.

Objective 1:

By September 30, 2008, review and revise, if necessary, the master plan for the Wisconsin Nutrition Education Network's (WHEN) Learner Centered Education Project, 2007 - 1010. 

Tactics:

  • Continue regular meetings of WHEN.

  • Continue regular meetings between DHFS and UW Extension FSNE managers.

  • Determine the feasibility a Joint conference: WIC and WNEP are planning a joint conference for local staff in June, 2008. The objectives are: 1) improve understanding of each other's programs and how they work together; 2) provide training in Learner Centered Approaches, and 3) provide opportunities for improved local collaboration between Extension and WIC.

Objective 2:

By September 30, 2008, make improvement to and continue the work of the Wisconsin Food Security Consortium. 

Tactics:

  • Continue with regular meetings of the Wisconsin Food Security Consortium co-chaired by UW Extension Food Security Coordinator and DHFS Nutrition Director (WIC Program Director and oversees FSNE)

  • Support and enhance the work of Governance structure and Steering Committee in accomplishing the work of the Consortium.

  • Facilitate the development of a state-wide hunger plan.
