Goal:  

Promote Healthy Eating and Active Lifestyles 

Promote adoption of healthy dietary patterns and regular physical activity among individuals, families and communities based on key messages in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. (Use/adapt Team Nutrition, Loving Support, Eat Smart. Play Hard.TM, and other national resources whenever possible.)

Objective 1:

By September 2007 and ongoing, effectively utilize current partnerships, through existing groups, to address at least 50% of State Goals.

Throughout 2008 communicate grants/training/funding opportunities to members and partners.

Tactics:

  • Communicate through existing groups: Action for Healthy Kids Coalition (State Board of Ed), Interagency Nutrition Council (INC), Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children (CLOCC) Obesity Steering Committee (IDPH) and others as identified.

  • Provide information on INC website http://INC.aces.uiuc.edu

Goal:

Promote Healthy Community and School Nutrition Environment

Educate teachers, staff and parents about the importance of school physical activity, healthy eating and nutrition programs and policies.

Objective 1:

Identify tools, resources and strategies to share among partners to address State Goals.

Tactics:

  • Utilize Team Nutrition, MyPyramid, Fruits & Veggies - More Matters and other program resources. Identify effective resources and strategies used by various member groups including action plans.

  • Promote CATCH program active in selected schools statewide with plans to expand if funding allows.

  • Share reports of activities by the Action for Healthy Kids-IL workgroup includes INC members.

  • Utilize information from the Illinois NUPA/Obesity state plan.

  • ISBE will provide semiannually a listing of newly acquired Nutrition Education Loan Library resources.

  • ISBE will provide Best Practices on Local Wellness Policies featured in The Outlook newsletter.

Objective 2:

Provide opportunities for partnerships to promote common nutrition goals.

Tactics: 

  • INC partners will assist in planning the IL Food Summit

  • INC partners will participate in the IL Food Summit.

  • ISBE will share Team Nutrition (TN) enrollment information with all INC partners to solicit new TN schools
